Details

Caspian Horse - Ancient, Versitile, Rare Breed: Jasenna Stud is proud to present Jasenna Meshek for his first season at stud as a 3yr old Caspian Stallion. Foaled on 19 Dec 2008, Meshek is a red bay with a diamond star and small sock on his off side hind leg. Height just under 11.3hh (119cm / 46 ¾ inches).

Meshek is a very showy type and turns heads wherever he goes, receiving many favourable comments. He is typical of the breed, with a kind, willing nature and smooth paces that will suit both ridden and harness pursuits. Soon he will be broken to harness.

He is registered with both the Australasian Caspian Society Inc and the International Caspian society.

For the last 3 years Meshek has featured in the Horse Breeds Expo at the Brisbane Royal (Ekka). In 2009, as a curious 7 month old, he spent 2 days there with his Dam (Ningana Bella). In 2010 he was exhibited for the entire 10 days and in 2011 he proudly represented the Caspian breed for the first 6 days of the show. In his limited show career, he has been placed 1st in every one of his 5 classes and was awarded Champion Any Other Native Pony Breed at the Queensland All Breeds Youngstock Show 2010.

The Caspian is a horse, not a pony. Overall impression: a well-bred, elegant horse in miniature.

Uses/Sports:
*Great children’s ponies: affectionate, curious, spirited and kind.
*Excellent in harness: fast and agile – regular winners at pony trots in SA.
*Exceptional jumping ability
*Long low action in the show ring
*Smooth gaits in dressage
*Remarkable agility in gymkhanas and cross country.
*Great stamina suits endurance riding.
*Part bred Caspians excel in many disciplines.

Cross breeding potential

A Caspian stallion is an exciting choice for cross breeding if you aim to breed a pony with considerable performance potential, an amazing natural jump and great temperament. Bruce Perrott of South Australia crossed his Caspian Stallion with many different breeds including Morgan, Connemara, Welsh, Australian Pony, Timor pony and Coffin Bay ponies and all of the resulting progeny went on to excel in harness. Caspians have also been bred to Thoroughbreds and Warmbloods with very successful outcomes.

If you choose a Caspian Stallion as the sire of your next foal, you will be playing an important part in the survival of this precious breed.
