Sheteph is a friendly, talkative youngster. He was weaned late (as is our preference) at around 8mths, giving him more time under the discipline of his Mum and Aunties. Breeding our mares every second year, enables us to lengthen the time our foals stay with their mothers before weaning, making for calmer, more emotionally stable foals. Once weaned, colts are run together, so they can play and develop strong bones and muscles. Weaned fillies are often returned to their mother’s social group. We also have safe areas where our colts can talk through the fence to older colts, stallions and mares, to establish good socialisation.

Caspians grow very rapidly, making most of their height in the first 18mths – therefore it is vital that they receive good nutrition during the early years. We therefore include Kohnke vitamins & minerals as part of the daily feed ration.

To ensure our foals develop the best legs possible, we employ the services of a highly skilled farrier, who specialises in foals. We choose to microchip rather than brand, and we worm and vaccinate as necessary.

As one of less than 1700 Caspian horses world wide, we hope that Sheteph will go to a kind home that will develop him into an ambassador for this very precious breed.
