$2.6million for Black Caviar’s Half-sister at Inglis Easter Sales

Published on Wednesday, April 11, 2012 in General

The sale ring at Inglis’ famous Newmarket complex in Sydney was set alight this morning as the yearling half-sister to World Champion Sprinter Black Caviar and ATC Sires Produces Stakes favourite All Too Hard was sold for $2.6million to BC3 Thoroughbreds.

By Australian Champion sire Redoute’s Choice, the filly (pictured) is the fourth foal of Helsinge, the dam of Black Caviar, All Too Hard and Moshe.

The filly was sold as Lot 200 at the 2012 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale by Makybe, as agent of breeder Rick Jamieson of Gilgai Farm.

Bidding on the star youngster opened at $1million, but immediately jumped to $1.5million before moving up steadily in $100,000 increments before Bill Vlahos of BC3 went head to head with leading Japanese trainer Mr Toshiaki Shirai, the under bidder who was working on instructions for a client from Japan.

BC3 Thoroughbreds are well-known for purchasing yearlings in America and turning them into top class racehorses, with Bill Vlahos and the team looking forward to their new acquisition working through the BC3 programme at their Torquay property in Australia.

“We are looking forward to bring her back to Victoria and putting her through the BC3 system that works on building up bone density and muscle tone,” Vlahos said.

“It [bidding] was a bit of an adrenalin rush, I’m just glad no one else put their hand up because we were at our limit,” Bill added.

The filly will be trained by Victorian trainer Danny O’Brien.

“I think everyone who came to the sale went to have a look at her, as she is a once in the lifetime opportunity to buy into this brilliant family,” O’Brien told TVN shortly after the purchase.

“Peter [Moody] has done such a great job with Black Caviar, and it’s just great to see this filly stay in Australia,” O’Brien said.

Photos of the stunning filly will be made available on Inglis Facebook page InglisBloodstock
