2012 Alice Springs Masters Games - What a Ride!
In the early 1980’s the Australian Sports Commission first suggested an idea of a masters games and the philosophy of masters sport. The development of masters sport included an underlying belief that each participant is a champion in his or her own right, as long as the physical and mental attributes for each stage of life have been maintained at their optimum levels.
The Northern Territory Government immediately embraced the idea seeing potential opportunities for economic and social development benefits, so in 1986 the first ever Masters Games event in Australia was held in Alice Springs. This event has been held regularly ever since.
The 14th Alice Springs Masters Games were held recently and included Equestrian Events.
The judges were universally appreciated and fully embraced the motto of the Games, "It's all about the fun!" The week went smoothly with the equestrian community coming together as is only ever seen during Masters, with horses being offered to riders, tack being shared, advice and support flowing freely and none of the snarky behaviour that can be found at horse events.
