34 successful destinations have been revealed to host this year's iconic Emirates Melbourne Cup Tour, which will traverse Australia and New Zealand during its three month Australasian journey

Taking off in July, the tour will head up to Queensland’s gulf in the country’s far north, across to Western Australia, jumping across the ditch to Auckland, New Zealand.

Its journey will continue to Canberra and to the thoroughbred breeding homelands of New South Wales, before heading to South Australia, Tasmania — and then finishing up with a tour of its home state of Victoria, and its final destination - the 153rd Emirates Melbourne Cup at Flemington!

Since 2003, the Emirates Melbourne Cup Tour has provided rural, regional and metropolitan communities across Australia and New Zealand a chance to experience the magic of the iconic trophy.

Over the past 10 years, the 18-carat gold Emirates Melbourne Cup has travelled more than 325,000 kilometres, visiting 236 towns and cities and engaging tens of thousands of people.

What happens on the Tour?

Each year, the Tour celebrates the heroes and stories intrinsically linked to the Victoria Racing Club’s 153-year old Melbourne Cup and its contribution to the nation's social, sporting and racing culture. It visits various destinations in an effort to unite communities by engaging councils, schools, hospitals, aged-care and racing groups in events to raise funds for local causes.

Living up to its status as the ‘People’s Cup’, in 2012 the Tour visited 35 schools and 22 hospitals and aged care facilities, participating in more than 87 community events, including street parades, civic receptions, charity dinners, community barbeques and cocktail parties.
