In a super-tight fight to the finish, the Belgian team came out on top at the opening leg of the FEI Nations Cup™ 2012 series in La Baule, France this afternoon. The La Baule Organising Committee Veterinary Advisors and the FEI have been constantly monitoring horses at the French event following a confirmed case of Equine Influenza in a horse that was competing in Le Touquet (FRA) last weekend. Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) swab testing, a “super-sensitive” forensic type test for viral infections. PCR looks for parts of the Influenza virus and is not an indicator that the virus is active, inactive, capable of producing disease, or that a horse is a risk to other horses.... 170 Kaimanawa Horses are scheduled to be culled in Bi-annual DoC Muster and new homes are urgently required for these horses. In late May, over 170 wild Kaimanawa horses will be mustered out of the Kaimanawa Ranges (New Zealand) as part of the area’s ecological management strategy.
