Dressage Legend Satchmo Retired from Competition

Eurodressage has reported that Isabell Werth officially retired her Olympic mount, Satchmo, from competition in a special ceremony at the CDI Stuttgart on Saturday 19 November 2011. The horse is still completely fit and healthy, however, Werth feels there is no need to pressure the now 17-year old Hanoverian to perform another show season. Werth has seven Grand Prix horses waiting at home, so she is ready to give them a big future in the international Grand Prix show ring and retire her star horse. ...

Over the weekend the Queensland Tentpegging Championships were held at Kalbar Showgrounds, where conditions were hot on and off the field! Tentpegging is thought to have originated in India, where mounted soldiers would gallop through enemy camps, removing the tent pegs with their lances and swords. They would be followed by more mounted soldiers who took advantage of the surprise and havoc caused by collapsed tents and a confused enemy.
