A Very Sad Loss for Laura Wallace at Tattersalls

Published on Monday, June 4, 2012 in General

It is with great sadness that we advise, Laura Wallace, who is such a wonderful contributor to Horsezone with her Postcards From The Saddle articles, lost her horse Sugoi at the Tattersalls International Horse Trials over the weekend. Sugoi had to be humanely destroyed as a result of a fatal accident while competing in the cross country. A fifteen year old gelding by Coral Reef, Sugoi stumbled and fell after jumping fence number seventeen and suffered a broken neck. He represented New Zealand at the 2008 Olympics ridden then by Helen Tompkins.

In her Five Minutes With... interview, Laura, who adored Sugoi (aka Pete), said he was one of her favourite horses, "He has jumped me around some really big tracks, taught me how to ride a 'hot' horse on the flat and has the oddest personality that always make me laugh."

We are so sorry for Laura's heartbreaking loss and our sincere condolences go out to her at this very difficult time.
