Equestrian Victoria (EV) has received a record-breaking number of entries for the 2014 Werribee Jeep Australian Showjumping Championships (ASJC) with more than 750 horses and riders set to compete at the four-day event, to be held at Werribee Park National Equestrian Centre from Thursday, 18 to Sunday, 21 September.

An impressive line up of Australia’s top showjumpers and rising stars will compete in the Australian Senior, Young Rider (16 to 21 years) and Junior (18 years and under) Championships, The Australian Speed Championship and The National Teams Title for their share in a $70,000 prize pool.

The 2013 Australian Showjumping Champion, Jamie Kermond, will fly back from representing Australia at the World Equestrian Games in Normandy, France, to defend his title, while EV’s athlete of the year, Tim Clarke and EV’s young athlete of the year, Jasmine Dennison will also raise the bar for competitors.

Young Rider Jake Hunter will be riding high with a bronze medal winning performance in China at the Youth Olympic Games under his belt but can expect stiff competition from Tom McDermott, Gemma Creighton and Tegan Chester, whose Australian Olympian showjumping fathers will be coaching from the sidelines.

Equestrian Victoria CEO, Greg Pratt, said the quality of entries at the ASJC continues to highlight the calibre of the competition and provides outstanding viewing for spectators.

“This year’s competition is set to be one of the biggest and best yet with more than 450 riders competing including 224 entrants from Victoria.

“We couldn’t be happier to be hosting the Werribee Jeep Australian Showjumping Championship’s for the third consecutive year and with an exceptionally talented pool of horse and rider combinations travelling to compete from all around the country, it will be a must-attend event,” Mr Pratt said.

Fans can enjoy free entry to the ASJC on Thursday, 18 and Friday, 19 September, with a $20 fee per vehicle charged across the weekend as the competition heats up.

A bustling trade village will give event goers a chance to shop ‘til they drop with an extensive range of products on offer.
