Australian Hunter Horse Association Moves With the Times
At the December 2011 Australian Hunter Horse Association (AHHA) executive meeting, the future of classification was discussed, and for varying reasons, a decision was made that as such, this would cease.
Whilst there were some great positives to this activity, it was identified that there were other areas which were not as uniform in this activity as the Association would have liked which were in themselves, a concern. These had the potential to have impacted negatively for AHHA and its members.
The responsibility for deciding whether a horse should be exhibited as a hunter should rest with its owner. AHHA will endeavour to make the standard and guidelines for Hunters as clear as possible to assist owners in making that decision. AHHA will concentrate its efforts on educating judges and competitors on the qualities and desireable traits a Hunter should possess, in order to improve the consistency of decision making with regard to type in the show ring.
However the Caretaker Committee is encouraging AHHA judges to give an unofficial opinion of a horse whilst judging at certain shows, if time permits. Members can express this interest via our website or by email info@hunterhorse.com.au.
Whilst AHHA or any other association cannot guarantee any judge will adjudicate to the standards as we would all wish, the AHHA judging system will undergo some stringent updates and improvements within the year.
