Autumn Yearling Sale Underway in Melbourne

The 2012 Inglis Melbourne Autumn Yearling Sale got underway at Oaklands on Sunday, with 79% of the day’s offerings finding new stables.

146 yearlings were sold, headed by Swettenham Stud’s Reset-Tannadice Park filly (Lot 194) - pictured that was purchased by Mornington based trainer Tony Noonan for $40,000.

Victorian trainers and agents led the buyers list from the opening day snapping up plenty of the Super VOBIS and VOBIS Gold yearlings on offer. Luke Oliver finished the day as the leading individual buyer by aggregate purchasing three for $51,000, followed by Patrick Payne who bought three for $48,500 and Gary Mudgway who secured two for $43,000.

Purchasers from New South Wales, South Australia, Western Australia, Northern Territory, Queensland, Tasmania, New Zealand and Singapore were also represented on the buyers list.

New Zealand based bloodstock agent Dean Hawthorne purchased the second highest priced lot on the day, going to $35,000 to secure Phoenix Broodmare Farm’s Husson-Marlee Gay colt (Lot 31) . While Singapore trainer Theo Kieser purchased Basinghall Farm’s Keep The Faith-Manzie de Lago colt (Lot 29) for $31,000.

Swettenham Stud heads the vendors list from Sunday having sold 14 for $153,750, followed by Eliza Park who sold 13 for $139,000 and Yallambee Stud who sold all six of their Day One offerings for a total of $80,500.

Yearlings that passed in on Day One of this year’s Inglis Melbourne Autumn Yearling Sale are available for sale via the Inglis Make-An-Offer service.

The two day sale continues on Monday, with another 236 yearlings catalogued. Selling will begin at 11am with Lots 216 to 430, followed by the supplementary catalogue of Lots 431 to 451 rounding out the great value sale.

All the action from Day Two will be broadcast on Inglis Sale Day live, with Online Bidding and Make-An-Offer available for those buyers unable to attend the Oaklands complex.
