Ben Meredith withdraws from WEG jumping shortlist
By: Michelle Cook/EA
Jumping rider Ben Meredith and his mount Bernadien Van Westuur have withdrawn from Australia's World Equestrian Games shortlist electing not to contest the upcoming two round Jumping nomination series.
"Bernadien Van Westuur has had a long, successful season and has given her best in many tough classes. While I am confident she could excel in the Australian selection trials at Spangenburg and Mons, the World Equestrian Games multi-round format could be a challenge and her longevity as an athlete is always my first priority as well as the owners," said Meredith. Meredith intends to still compete on Bernadien Van Westuur on the USA's east coast and through Wellington, Florida next season.
Fellow US based rider Thaisa Erwin and her bay Belgian Warmblood, Matilda, will come into replace Meredith in the field of eight short listed riders.
The following short listed riders will compete in the two round back to back weekend series at Mons Ghlin CSI4* (BEL) from Thursday 3rd July till Sunday 6th July and Spangenburg CSI3* (GER) from Thursday 10th - Sunday 13th July.
- David Goodwin and Warrego Jericho
- Amy Graham and Bella Baloubet
- Julia Hargreaves and Vedor
- Jamie Kermond* & Quite Cassini/Killeter Park Caracas
- James Passy and Yirrkala Cortina
- James Paterson-Robinson* and Vincente/Boris
- Alison Rowland and Bickley Brook Bella
- Thaisa Erwin and Matilda
* Riders named on two horses are deemed to be one combination. When required the riders will nominate the preferred horse in conjunction with the Jumping Selection Panel.
