Calling for Pencillers for the Victorian Dressage Festival

Published on Wednesday, October 15, 2014 in General

Once again the call is out for volunteers for the Dressage Festival, which is the Victorian Dressage Champoinships, being held 11-14 December 2014.

Dressage Pencillers are an integral part of any Dressage competition. It is an opportunity for anyone involved in the sport (riders, coaches, supporters) to spend time gaining an insight into the judges perspective.  It is a great learning experience and can really lead to improvement in your own riding. Penciling is a great way to improve judging skills also. It is an enjoyable way to give back to the sport and meet new people.

Judges are friendly and keen to pass on their knowledge. They depend on pencillers to quickly, accurately, legibly, and quietly record the scores and brief comments made about each rider. You only need to be able to write legibly to be able to pencil. Prior experience is a benefit but not neccessary.

Equestrian Australia has produced a “Guide for Writers (Pencillers)” which includes a list of abbreviations suitable for pencillers to assist pencillers recoding the judges comments, you will find this via the following linkhttp://www.equestrian.org.au/sites/default/files/Guidelines%20for%20writers%20and%20pencillers.pdf

The Dressage Festival runs from Thursday 11th to Sunday 14th December, please let Jan Donald (jandonald25@hotmail.com.au) know if you would be available, and advise what day(s) and times.

As well as contributing to your sport, all pencilers will go into a draw and one in 10 pencilers will recieve a free GA pass to next year's Dressage with the Stars in March, and one will win a lesson from Kerry Mack at Mayfield Farm.  WPVDC members will also have exclusive access on the day(s) they are pencilling to our VIP table in the indoor next to the main arena.

WPVDC may be able to run a brief workshop for pencilers if needed prior to the Dressage Festival. There will be someone to greet pencilers on the day and ensure you know the ropes.

If penciling isn't your thing there are lots of other ways to be involved and meet people. Contact Iole in the a Equestrian Victoria office or by email at dressage@equestrianvictoria.com.au .
