Former Rugby Team Manager Chris Webb has been appointed as the Equestrian Australia (EA) High Performance Manager (HPM) and will commence on 29 April 2013.

With more than a decade experience in senior management roles within Rugby, including working for the Australian Rugby Union (ARU), NSW Waratahs and Western Australian Rugby Union, Mr Webb brings to the role significant expertise working at the elite end of the sport.

Equestrian Australia Chairman Dr Warwick Vale said EA was fortunate to bring on board a sporting professional of Mr Webb’s calibre who can help drive the High Performance program to the next level.

“We conducted an extensive search to ensure we found the right person who can help implement the changes that were recently identified in our High Performance (HP) review and can bring a new level of expertise to our sport.

“Chris’ strong experience working for a professional code alongside coaches and athletes as well as his stakeholder management skills, will be invaluable when he takes on the HPM role with EA.

“We are pleased that Chris has proven capabilities in bringing about positive team cultural changes as well as exceptional leadership skills,” said Dr. Vale.

Mr Webb said the move from Rugby to equestrian is one that he is looking forward to and he’s excited about the plans for the future.

“In all sport comes change and the move to EA, a dynamic Olympic and non-Olympic sports body is something that myself and EA are looking forward to.

“Yesterday’s commitment of funding by the Australian Sports Commission means we can now put in place the structures and plans needed to achieve the outcomes we have outlined in our Winning Edge proposal.

“To start I will be meeting with various stakeholders within the sport to listen and understand the sport better.  The members viewpoints are key for us to continue the journey and great work already done on the course to Rio,” he said.

Mr Webb will officially start on the 29 of April 2013 at the Equestrian Australia offices, however will be attending the Sydney International Horse Trials the weekend of 27-28 April 2013.
