Classic Winter Book Shines Through Challenging Weather Conditions At Inglis Newmarket

Published on Monday, June 24, 2013 in General

The inaugural Winter Book of the Sydney Classic Yearling Sale succeeded in providing buyers and sellers the convenient marketplace they desired, with 143 lots traded on Sunday.

“Despite what was arguably the wettest 48 hours of the year plenty of buyers braved the elements to compete for the yearlings on offer today,” said Inglis Director Jonathan D’Arcy.

“As we have seen across the sales season the market was discerning on type but well-presented yearlings found strong competition and many vendors reported good results.

“I have no doubt that this sale will establish itself as a good alternative for later maturing yearlings or horses that have setbacks while being aimed at earlier sales.

“It was pleasing to see several pin hookers purchasing some nice colts for the inaugural Ready2Race sale in Sydney later in the year,” said D’Arcy

96 yearlings were sold at an average of $15,372 during the Select Session of the Winter Book. The General Session also recorded commendable results, with a 75% clearance rate recorded for the day.

Amarina Farm’s colt by Snitzel from Morrego (Lot 52 ) topped the one day sale when selling to Rosehill trainer Gerald Ryan for $100,000. The colt (pictured) is the first foal of More Than Ready mare Morrego, which hails from the family of five-time Group 1 winner Eremein.

Warwick Farm trainer Matthew Smith purchased the highest priced filly at the Winter Book when going to $80,000 for Lot 139 , a filly by Zizou from Exclusive Bid offered by Turangga Farm. The filly is a sister to $195,000 earner Zin Zan Eddie, which is trained by Smith for owner Frank Cook, who purchased the multiple city winner from the 2011 Classic Sale for $65,000.

Local trainers and owners were provided with plenty of competition in the Newmarket ring. Buyers from New South Wales, Queensland, Western Australia, South Australia, Tasmania, New Zealand, Malaysia & Singapore were active on Sunday.
