Are you in the market for an indoor arena?

We all dream of an enclosed area for riding, away from the extremes of heat and cold, now your dream can become a reality!

Whether you are interested in building an arena for your club or association or as an addition to your own property, SMC2 can build the perfect structure to exactly suit your needs.

SMC2 designs and installs innovative buildings and structures specifically adapted for sport uses all set to be installed at a wide range of locations across Australia.

Their buildings and structures are engineered with care to meet the specific needs of clients.

SMC2’s concepts smartly combine noble construction materials such as steel and treated glued laminated timber with a waterproof fabric roof to provide protection and comfort to the arenas all year-round in all weather conditions.

The concept has been successful in Europe for the last 12 years as it provides a flexible and aesthetically pleasant solution to create sheltered leisure surfaces.

There are multiple advantages to the use of tensile membranes in roofs and facades, but the most significant properties are:

  • Translucency: the material lets natural light pass through during daytime allowing massive savings in the running expenses of an indoor facility.
  • Water & UV-proof: the membrane roof offers the best protection against the elements and allows the harvest of clear rainwater.
  • Temperature control: the translucent white membrane has a low thermal heat capacity. In summer it reflects excess energy from the sun minimising the temperature gain and preventing overheating. In winter, it does not store the cold.
  • Controlled acoustics: the multitude of double inverse curves and the flexibility of the fabric roof reduces echo and turns your training sessions into a much more enjoyable experience.

There are multiple ways in which SMC2’s structures can be designed and implemented. The concept is very flexible and can be adapted to the specific requirements of the activity that will be developed in the new facility. For example, if the site is exposed to predominant winds but the client wishes to have an outdoor facility, it is possible to apply facades to the most exposed sides of the building and leave the rest open to allow a good visibility of the arena from the outside.

Additionally, the facades provide an excellent support for advertising as it is possible to print logos on them. Night and day, the facilities can draw the attention of the people passing nearby.
The versatility of the fabric material allows the use of breathable facades that bring protection from the sun and rain while letting the air flowing through the building. This system is very well adapted to hot climates and contributes to the maintaining of lower temperatures by using a natural ventilation system.

Another interesting characteristic of SMC2’s buildings is their integrated rainwater collection system: the geometry of the building’s roof is specifically designed to channel the water into the steel downpipes attached to the structure. The water can then be harvested and used in the property fields.

The facilities that SMC2’s design and installs are fit for purpose. Every project is specifically studied and engineered to meet the needs of the client. All building standards and local conditions are being taken into consideration in what is a turnkey process where experienced teams will manage the project from beginning to end to deliver a facility to be proud of.
