Edwina Aims to Defend GCT Series Lead in Lausanne

Published on Friday, September 14, 2012 in General

Edwina Tops-Alexander will defend her overall series lead of the Global Champions Tour when competition resumes this weekend in Lausanne, Switzerland.

After a four week hiatus, top horse and rider combinations are back in action with the picture perfect Lake Geneva providing the backdrop for what is the 10th round of the world’s premier Show Jumping competition.  It is the first time that Lausanne has hosted a round of the Global Champions Tour and more than 15,000 spectators are expected to attend the inaugural event.

Following this weekend’s competition just two rounds remain so competition is sure to be fierce between top ranked riders.

Edwina has been in top position on the leader board since winning the season opening event in April but is just 20 points ahead of her nearest rival, Christian Ahlmann of Germany.  Swedish rider Rolf-Goran Bengtsson is in third place and is just 35 points off the pace.

More than€466,000($537,000 AUD) in prize money is on offer and with competition close at the top, as is a chance to take a leading position.

Eurosport will broadcast the Grand Prix class on Channel 511 on Foxtel and Austar at 11am AEST on Sunday 16 September with repeats on Wednesday and Thursday next week. Visit http://tv.au.eurosport.com/ and search Equestrian for more details.

Horses and riders will next travel to Vienna for the 11th and penultimate round of competition which will take place next weekend, 20-23 September.

The overall champion will be decided in November when the final round takes place in Abu Dhabi.
