Burton has his Eyes on London After Winning at Saumur

Australia’s Chris Burton has ended his Saumur CCI3* campaign the best possible way, finishing the weekend in first and second positions. The 31 year old, who made his debut for Australia at the 2010 World Equestrian Games, is now setting his sights on an Olympic Games berth as part of the five member Australian Eventing Team. “Winning here in front of the national selectors has given me a better chance to be part of the team for the Olympic Games,” said Burton...

Andrew Nicholson has this morning finished third in the International CCI3* Three Day event in Saumur, France. Aboard Viscount George in his first three star, Nicholson went into the final showjumping phase in second place, but two fences down slid him into third behind Christopher Burton (AUS) who was first on Haruzac and second on Holstein Park Leilani....

Chris Burton is leading the Australian charge on Saumur CCI3* and occupies positions one and two on the leaderboard after Cross Country. Heavy and consistent rain made the course even more challenging and yesterday’s top placed Aussie, Clayton Fredericks, was unable to continue in the competition after he was taken to hospital for examination after falling from Be My Guest at the 15th fence.... British rider Nick Skelton produced an electrifying clear round in the jump-off in Hamburg today to win one of the toughest Grand Prix of the GCT season so far. Course designer Frank Rothenberger predicted a seriously challenging 1.60m CSI5* competition in Germany and after two rounds of world class show jumping, the jump off proved to be a thriller. A healthy total of 15 combinations were clear in the first round, together with 3 fast combinations with four faults, including Hamburg 2010 winner Lauren Hough.... The 5* class of today had a height of 1.50m and 52 combinations at the start. No less then twenty two combinations, of which nine Germans, managed to stay clear on Frank Rothenberger’s course which consisted of very long lines. These lines invited the riders to speed up after which they had to carefully manage the following obstacles.... Four Australians in Top Ten after Dressage Phase at Saumur CCI3*

Dressage results from Saumur CCI3* are in and leading the Australian assault after the first phase of competition is Clayton Fredericks and Walterstown Don. The Mercedes Benz Championship of Hamburg had a height of 1.55m and 58 combinations at the start. The course, designed by Frank Rothenberger, had a few short lines in the combinations especially to the first double and the first triple, which was also downhill.... In a super-tight fight to the finish, the Belgian team came out on top at the opening leg of the FEI Nations Cup™ 2012 series in La Baule, France this afternoon. It took three tough rounds of jumping to decide the result however, as The Netherlands chased them all the way to a third-round jump-off in which Gregory Wathelet clinched it with his new ride, the 10 year old mare Euphony Cadjanine Z....
