At the ripe old age of 18, Wagga Wagga showjumper Tom McDermott, has already taken Australia's elite showjumping scene by storm and now he's really showing superstar qualities! At the recent Sydney Royal Show Tom was definitely the man of the moment after sensational performances, including winning the World Cup Qualifier, which led to the hugely talented mare, CP Romantic Dream (aka Pinky - owned by the Tripp family), being named Jumping Horse of the Show and Tom being sashed as Most Successful Rider. ... When Stacy Westfall first rode into the arena for her Masterclass at Equitana, we were all excited to see such a star in our midst, however, one attendee in particular amongst the massive crowd was almost overcome with excitement! From 31 January to 5 February AELEC in Tamworth is being taken over by the great Aussie sport of Campdrafting - four different drafts followed by the 2012 Landmark Classic Sale - and no-one is letting a little rain get in the way of the drafting action! Viveka is a purebred Trakehner mare, purchased by ‘Rutley Park’ from Torridon Lodge in Western Australia. Viveka’s (Veka) sire is the wonderful Trakehner Stallion Valuta, imported to Australia by Gert and Mary Donvig. Valuta had a stellar career in dressage - his many high achievements culminating in being short listed for the Soeul Olympics. Veka is flying the flag for Trakehners on the eventing scene, and it is no coincidence that she is doing well. Over 2500 years ago the well known Persian King, Darius the Great, used Caspians as chariot horses during lion hunts. His seal (pictured left), which now resides in the British Museum, depicts just such a scene. A remnant survived until the present day, living in Iran amongst the remote Alborz mountains and the adjacent southern shores of the Caspian sea, making Caspians the oldest domesticated breed of horse in the world. Studies have shown that they are ancestral to the Arab horse and thus their genetics form a part of many modern breeds....
