Five equestrian clubs have received financial assistance from Equestrian Australia, Equestrian Queensland and Horsezone to assist with repairing damage to their facilities following the devastating January 2011 floods.
Equestrian Australia, Equestrian Queensland and Horsezone raised almost $55,000 in a flood appeal following the natural disaster. The money raised has been distributed to equestrian clubs who submitted for assistance to repair damage caused by the floods.
The recipient clubs were the McIntyre Centre, Kenmore, Queensland, Burpengary Equestrian Centre, Burpengary, Queensland, Young Dressage Association Inc. Young, NSW, Wingham Eventing Club, Wingham, NSW and Fig Tree Pocket Equestrian Club, Figtree Pocket, Queensland.
The MacIntyre Centre is a unique therapy based facility for children and young adults with a disability. In January 2011 the entire 30-acre facility was inundated with water destroying all riding arenas, fencing, yards, feed supplies and damaging many buildings as well as riding and office equipment.
Julie Tom expressed thanks on behalf of the MacIntyre Centre, “2011 was a very emotional year for everyone at the Centre but thanks to very generous people and organisations like you in our community, we were able to re-build and repair and open our gates again just six weeks after being hit by the floods. We could not have done this without the flood assistance money. The wonderful donation meant a lot to us and allowed us to rebuild this wonderful centre – a centre that provides valuable therapeutic riding lessons to 200 children and young adults with disabilities each week.”
With over 200 children on the waiting list, in 2012 the MacIntyre Centre is focussed on increasing the number of riding arenas and therapies available to give an improved quality of life to more children with a disability each week. A goal made more achievable by the flood assistance money.
Equestrian Australia, Equestrian Queensland and Horsezone would like to thank all the donors to the Food Assistance Fund. The generosity of the community made this assistance possible and has been greatly appreciated by thousands of club members.
