Jodie Smith is a Charles Sturt University Master's Research student looking to increase participation in her online survey, which is researching the distribution of asymmetric locomotory responses in horses under saddle. "What we are researching," says Jodie, "is the effect of our horse's natural motor bias and our motor bias when in partnership. The aim is the explore the relationship between the motor preferences and to see if we are inadvertently training a motor bias into our horses....

Additional Precautionary Measures Taken in La Baule

The La Baule Organising Committee Veterinary Advisors and the FEI have been constantly monitoring horses at the French event following a confirmed case of Equine Influenza in a horse that was competing in Le Touquet (FRA) last weekend. Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) swab testing, a “super-sensitive” forensic type test for viral infections. PCR looks for parts of the Influenza virus and is not an indicator that the virus is active, inactive, capable of producing disease, or that a horse is a risk to other horses....
