Horsemans Rendezvous Wrap Up

What happens when you bring four totally different trainers together with four different end results required from their horses? Well, interestingly enough the foundations for a dressage horse, a showjumper, a reining horse or a weekend trail rider are pretty much the same!

Bring together Rob Lawson, National and International Reining Champion, Colleen Brook National and International Showjumping Champion, Jose Mendez Classical Dressage Master and brain child of the weekend Tony Lawson, Horse Human Relationship Specialist, and you have the Horseman’s Rendezvous.

Tony Lawson from the Horseman’s Institute summed it so well. We’ve brought together four very different trainers, all successful in their own right yet I think anyone who has been here would agree that the foundation is the same. Whether you're training to showjump, become a reiner or simply want help connecting with your horse, you need control, not of your horse but all the elements, from top to toe and everything in between.

The concept of the weekend held at Sydney International Equestrian Centre (SIEC) was to give people a bit of a taste of everything. They also had a trade area to shop until you drop and each session aimed at showing people something a little different from the various fields. There was a strong undertone with every trainer from Pat Parralli and then each had their own take on what they wanted to achieve.

In watching the four presenters work together, it was an amazing opportunity to see them where they are happiest - in an arena, working with their own and also students’ horses. It’s one thing to be able to ride a horse but to be able to communicate it to a room full of people is a gift, and the Horseman’s Rendezvous certainly had four gifted people.

In talking to Debbie Lawson, one of the tireless event directors, this is not the last time that we’ll see this type of concept, “With spectators traveling from NSW, QLD, VIC, SA and WA it certainly has scope to grow in the future.” “We’d love to see this become an annual event. It certainly has scope to grow or even go around the country and with a few more people here in the future, we keen to grow.”

I must say I went to SIEC with an open mind and a thirst to grow my knowledge. It was a lovely relaxed atmosphere, and it didn’t disappoint in any way shape or form. All the presenters were clear and kept it at a level that you could understand.

I look forward to seeing this event grow in the future!
