Katey Baddeley Awarded the Peoples Choice Award at 2012 Inglis Equine Art Prize

Canberra artist Katey Baddeley has been crowned the People’s Choice winner at the 2012 Inglis Equine Art Prize, for her graphite on paper artwork ‘Write a New Chapter’.

The award is voted on by attendee’s at all three public viewings of the artwork in Sydney, Melbourne and Scone in the Hunter Valley, NSW. Ms Baddeley was awarded a studio crank easel from Mont Marte International , valued at $500.

Mike Coward of Australian Art Sales said “this is the second year running that a drawing has won top honours in the People’s Choice award. Katey’s artwork captured people’s imagination with its beauty and the delicacy of the drawing.”

The theme for this year’s awards was ‘At the Track’ and was judged by Australian portrait artist Nafisa Naomi, renowned equine artist Alister Simpson and Inglis Deputy Chairman, Arthur Inglis.

Overall winner was well-known Victorian water colour artist Joseph Zbukvic for his artwork ‘Early trackwork - Kyneton’. Zbukvic’s work was an equal People’s Choice runner up with Lyn Beaumont's 'Final Adjustment-Magic of Sydney'.

Zbukvic pocketed prize money of $15,000 with runner up Tony Pridham, also from Victoria, receiving prizes of Antler Luggage and Yalumba wine to the value of $2,500 for his work ‘Nothing more to give - Master Tiangar’.

The prize is in its second year. It was established by Arthur Inglis and Mike Coward of Australian Art Sales , as a way of promoting and protecting classic thoroughbred and equine art in Australia and internationally.

Inglis would like to thank their sponsors and everyone who attended for making the 2012 Inglis Equine Art Prize a success, including Yalumba Wines , Coopers Brewery and Antler Luggage
