An early kick off at 5:30am was the perfect start to the Landmark Classic event to beat the heat. Competitors started the week with the first round of the Martins Stock Haulage Open and were treated to a beautiful line of cattle donated by Lindsay & Jan Knight, Reedy Creek Herefords & Ceres Agriculture.

91 was the highest score in the first round set by Tamworth competitor Neil Faint on his grey mare Turners Stud Flirt by Turners Stud Bobby.
Fellow local Andrew Chapman on Digby and QLD Competitor Felicity Forsyth riding Fleming Stud Pagent Queen were on Neil’s heels, both with 90 points and Bendemeer competitor Joe Pederick riding Condamine Obsession.
Cut Out in the first round was top scored by Tom Williamson riding his mare 24 points One Moore Diva.

The 2013 top priced horse One Stylish Pepto with Mark Buttsworth rode to an 89 point score and was joined on this score by Mat Holz riding Bank Full O Cherries and Alchemy Zanibar ridden by Greg Charleson.

It was sunny 30 degrees in Tamworth which was well short of the predicted continued hot weather in the North West. Temperatures are predicted to cool off for the middle of the week which will make the campdrafting competitors very pleased after such hot days in recent weeks.

Later this afternoon is the first round of the Australian Performance Challenge sponsored by The Land.

With 61 competitors in the challenge this year, Judges Rob Leach and Tom Williamson will have the tough task as they have such a stellar line up of horses again this year.

Competitors have come from all over Australia, as far as the NT and WA.

Landmark Equine Administration Co-ordinator, Amanda Nicholson said the event had come together well and was great to see it so well supported and the rural community come together when so many are doing it tough in Rural Australia.

“It’s great to see everyone and even though they are all very competitive, the performance horse community use the event to network and catch up with good friends from all over Australia.”

Those who can’t make the event can log onto the Landmark Equine website and watch the Live Webcast.
Top Runs will be loaded on YouTube and Linked on the Landmark Facebook this evening.
