Lang Lang, a small dairy community located on the north eastern edge of Victoria’s Western Port Bay, hosted its annual show on the weekend.

A real country ag-show, just over an hour from Melbourne’s CBD, there were chooks, cows, horses, assorted agricultural competitions and exhibits, amusements and two days of first class show jumping.  There was even a kids cooking class parents could enrol their young ones in making it a great family entertainment event.

Weather conditions perfect true summer slip - slop - slap weather. Both days fine, clear, sunny and temperatures mid to high 20’s.

For show jumpers this show was the last hit out for those riders preparing for next weeks prestigious Boneo Park Classic, which includes an FEI World Cup round.

The show jumping was hosted by Port Philip Show Jump Club and they must be given full credit for the organisation and conduct of this friendly event.  The club did an excellent job on all fronts.

Entries were incredibly strong, amazingly, given the number of riders delays and disruptions were negligible, everything ran like clockwork, gate stewards were on the ball ensuring a continuous flow of competitors onto the arena.

The course this year was built by leading course designer David Sheppard.  As usual David built interesting, fair, flowing tracks yet appropriately challenged both horse and rider.  Senior judge for the weekend was Annie White, assisted by Ian Chalmers.

One of the key highlights expressed by riders was the surface.  Well grassed with Kikuya and Couch grass with a well - watered sandy loam base making for excellent and inviting conditions on which to show jump.  The club even made the effort to water the surface on the Saturday night.  Special thanks and acknowledgement must be given to Mal Cameron for his months of work overseeing and preparing the picturesque competition arena. It could not be faulted in any way.

And show jump they did, nearly 500 rounds for the weekend.  Competition was tight across the board, in many of the jump offs there was less than a tenth of a second separating place getters. Congratulations must go to winners of the weekends marquee events with Russell Johnstone and Borealis Centurion taking out Saturday’s 130cm AM5 competition and Ally Lamb riding C.P Argento winning Sunday’s KWA Building Permits 135cm Grand Prix.
