More Improvements to Fig Tree Pocket Equestrian Grounds

Published on Tuesday, May 7, 2013 in General

Event riders will have a chance to test out the newly resurfaced dressage arena at the one-day event at Fig Tree Pocket on the weekend of May 11 and 12.

Event President Deb Postle said she hoped riders would be happy with the changes to the sand arena.

“It’s a work in progress. We have had a few teething problems, but we’ve done more work since the dressage day last weekend. We appreciate the riders honest feedback, and we’ve sought to address their concerns.”

The event has attracted just under 200 horse and rider combinations, many who will travel several hours just to attend.

Toowoomba based event rider Megan Drennan has been competing at Fig Tree Pocket for the past ten years. Over the past decade she’s watched the transformation of the club grounds.

“When I first started competing there they didn’t even have a shower. Over the years they’ve continued to invest time and money into improving the course, the facilities and the grounds. Now both horse and rider are always well catered for,” Ms Drennan said.

“It’s certainly an event I enjoy. It’s a lovely venue, with part of the cross-country run along the river. I like that the committee do things to mix up the course too, to keep things interesting,” she said.

Over the years the club has made many improvements including a new yards, a service block to replace the port-a-loo, and more recently new fencing and resurfacing the arena.

Mrs Postle said it is club members, the committee and volunteers who have made all the improvements possible over the years.

“Hopefully there’ll be more improvements to come. For now we just have to make sure the arena is a success, and we get the thumbs up from riders!”

The event is open to the public and is held at 717 Fig Tree Pocket Road, Fig Tree Pocket.
