The Remi Stud Young Rider Scholarship is an annual Scholarship and is awarded to a very deserving Young Rider every year who has the talent and dedication in either dressage or eventing, but not the financial means to purchase a horse of their dreams. Cheryl from Remi Stud has put together a great team of Supporters to help make this dream come true for one lucky young rider.

This Scholarship is an amazing opportunity for a young rider to have entry into the equestrian industry with support from a variety of Supporters.  The Scholarship includes the ownership of a purpose bred Hanoverian weanling by either Lauries As or Fishermans Friend - two of the best performed Hanoverian stallions in Australia - plus the support package which includes feed from Prydes until the horse is three years of age, registration with Equestrian Australia, legal support from HorseForce, a saddle and bridle from Saddleworld, 10 weeks training by Team Van Den Berge when the horse turns three years old, show products from Dr Show, and Veterinary care from Westvets. A total package.

To be considered for the receipt of this amazing scholarship valued at over $30,000, riders just need to complete an application form available from either EA or Cheryl. Applicants are eligible from the beginning of the year in which they turn 12 years old to the end of the year in which they turn 18 years old. The winner is announced in July each year.

Here is a little information on the inaugural winner in 2013:

ISABELLA WILKINSON-McINTYRE

Isabella is a remarkable young lady and competitor and she is only 15 years old. She is one of 5 children and lives with her mother, Vanessa, who I am sure has been her greatest support.   Whilst still in Grade 10, she has successfully managed to train herself and compete 3 different horses at 3 different levels (EFA, QISEA and PCAQ) consistently winning and placing at them all.  Isabella’s home facilities are very limited, so most of her training (which she does herself) has been done at her local Pony Club Grounds in Mogill or at the FTP Equestrian Centre.

Bella, as she is known, has always had a passion for horses, but this dream nearly ended before it started, as she had a nasty riding accident in 2011, where she smashed her foot so badly that she underwent 4 operations, contracted Compartment Syndrome and almost lost her foot.  Despite this setback her determination to walk and then ride again saw her back in the saddle after 4 months and the rest is history.

Bella started her journey with a borrowed pony called Rosie at the Warwick ODE in 2012 when her friend and owner of Rosie, Nicola, was injured.  She has since gone from strength to strength winning and placing at eventing, showjumping and dressage.  Bella also competes at Interschool Equestrian sports and this culminated in being awarded Showjumping Champion, Showman Champion and Senior School Overall Equestrian Champion in 2012.  She has also been selected in the Pony Club Qld State Teams for dressage, showjumping and eventing and has represented her school for Equestrian at both State and National level with great success.

In 2012 Bella was awarded Runner up Qld Young Dressage Rider of the Year and was selected on the Young Riders Dressage Squad.  Since winning the Remi Stud Young Rider Scholarship last year, Bella has continued her winning ways.  She has again been selected on the Qld Young Rider Squad, and also won Champion Prelim/Novice Young Rider of the Year and Champion Prelim/Novice Pony of the Year 2013.  Bella is always respectful to her peers, competitors and even her parents, and when she is not competing she is always there encouraging and being supportive of other members of her discipline and teams.  Bella will help anyone with anything and is truly a remarkable young lady.

In Bella’s short riding journey from the age of 10, she has faced every challenge with courage, enthusiasm and total belief in the world of the horse. Equestrian sport in Qld has benefited from Bella’s wonderful achievements, talent, inspirations of excellence, and sheer determination to be the best person and rider that she can be.  With young riders like her, our Equestrian sport will continue to prosper in Australia well into the future.  Remi Stud, together with their Supporters (EQ, EA, HorseForce, Saddleworld, Team VDB, Virbac, Westvets, and Prydes Easifeed) are delighted that Isabella Wilkinson-McIntyre is the inaugural winner of the Remi Stud Young Rider Scholarship in 2013. She is an inspiration to young riders and old riders alike, and we look forward to watching Bella and Remi Livingstone competing together in the years ahead.
