Over three hundred and thirty horses travelled from all over NSW to compete in this year's SHC Rivenlee NSW Horse of the Year Show, which was held over the weekend at Hawkesbury Showground, Clarendon.

Four interstate judges were invited, Mrs Kim Taunton, Miss Jodie Allen, Mrs Sarah McCormack and Mrs Kerry Tempest- Clarke, and they were impressed with the very high quality of competition held over the three days.

Unfortunately Friday's weather was VERY unkind to us, with competitors braving the terrible conditions to compete in the Newcomers, Preliminary, Leds, Amateur events, as well as the new Grand National Ridden Shetland and Children's classes. We did have excellent entries in most of the classes, and for those that chose to compete, their horses were all very well behaved with the day finishing incident free.

Saturday and Sunday's Grand National qualifying classes were both held under beautiful sunny skies. The arena lay out seemed to work well, and the spectators marquees were fully utilised on all days. We were very fortunate to secure a new sponsor Seaham Grange Stud, which allowed us to have many beautiful plants around, adding to the atmosphere of the prestigious state event.

All competitors received an individual working, allowing them to best show off their horses. These classes were very hotly contested, and it was wonderful to see some very excited winners taking out major awards.

Following the great success at this year's Grand National, the show committee decided to introduce the Smartest on Parade award, in each class, thus giving another competitor the chance to go home with a major award. This award proved to be very popular and we thank the events sponsors Walfram Investments, Les Friend Riding Academy, Riding Ponies Stud Book and South West Hack Assoc, whom supported this award.

The committee’s thanks must go to Rivenlee whom was the events Major sponsor for the second year. We also have the sponsorship from all NSW Hack Associations as well many Equine Business and members who help make up wonderful list of valued sponsors that continue to support the NSW Horse Of The Year and SHC members.

Alison Doyle was our announcer this year and did a wonderful job keeping everybody informed, we are very fortunate to have secured her services for future events. The show announcer does play such a vital role in the event's success.

This year was the first time we introduced the electronic scoring system. After Helen Kirton researched the System, it worked very well in conjunction with our manual system that Graham Colvin and Amanda Peters worked together on.

I have received very positive comments about our officials wearing the new Show Horse Council clothing, I think we presented a very smart picture out in the grounds. There is a very loyal and professional team of workers who volunteer their time to make the event run smoothly. Most clubs had delegates or members who pulled together as a team, with some helpers travelling from far afield to support the council with running its state show. Cherie Jennings and Libby Went came down from Lismore, Sean Alford came all the way from Queensland to assist Helen with Measuring , Wendy Manchester from Dubbo, and Scott Mason and Kevin Walker showed on Saturday then marshalled on Sunday.

The event could not go ahead without you all, so I would like to personally thank everybody who did such a great job, and think as a collective, we put on the BEST Horse Of The Year I have been involved with.

I hope all the members had a wonderful weekend, and look forward now to 2013 event planning.
