Winners are grinners and nothing could wipe the smile of  Nick Taliana's face on Saturday afternoon!

With the weather forecast telling everyone to stay at home, numbers were a little light for the 136th Annual Nowra Show, but as they say 'the show must go on' and those who braved it were not only rewarded with fantastic ground and super courses but also a little bit of sunburn! 

 

2012 saw Vicky Brighton, Showjumping Co-ordinator, make a change to the original program, with the switch to heights allowing riders and horses to select their own level in which to compete. A modest downpour early Friday saw a few slight delays but nothing could dampen the spirit of those who had made the trip.

 

James Arkins had a great day winning the 1.15m Young Rider with Oaks Sonata, the 1.15m Open with Wondaree Dream Hunter and both the 1.25m and 1.35m with Dreamtime Invader. See full results from Friday below.

 

By Saturday afternoon the ground was second to none, with every horse wanting to get off the ground, a credit to Ringmaster John Bennett and his crew for presenting a superb event. With the crowd building and all eyes on the Showjumping, Mark Akins, Course Designer didn't allow the small field to lessen the technicality of the course.

 

A decent 1.4m first round with a three round competition, it was on from the first fence. Massive Congratuations must go to Milly Clarke, riding Sidney Roberts' horse, The Prince and You, who completed the 2 tough rounds with a total of only 16 faults. Poor Grant Clarke was a little worn out and worried that he may have to buy his daughter another horse to add to her team. Neville Cuzner and his team never gave an inch through the whole event, with both Rose and Mack jumping clean in the first round. James Arkins also put both his top horses in the class and Cocomo showed he has a heart the size Phar Lap's, finishing his two rounds with a total of 12 faults. The lovely Emma Smith and her stallion Ego Casablanca were extremely unlucky to have just one rail in the first round to finish in third place.

 

Despite these impressive performances, the class was all about Nick Taliana and Ambrose. This stunning Thoroughbred gelding is showing what patience and time can produce. Three Faultless rounds crowned him the 2012 Nowra Show Grand Prix Winner and couldn't have removed Nicks' smile if you tried! Neville Cuzner finished second with three clear rounds but just a fraction slower on time.

 

A credit to the crew at Nowra, the plans are already in place for 2013, so be there or you'll miss one of the best Country Shows in NSW!
