Top Jockeys jump into the action at Sydney International Horse Trials

Published on Monday, April 27, 2015 in Sponsored Shows

Glyn Schofield, Kathy O’Hara, Kerrin McEnvoy and Gerald Ryan will be fronting up to test their showjumping skills at the Sydney International Horse Trials (#SydHT) on Sunday, 3 May.

#SydHT is the domain of Australia’s leading Showjumping and Eventing riders, however, these legends of the turf will also be taking centre stage as they compete in a novelty Showjumping competition.

The jockeys will each be paired with a leading Eventing or Jumping rider for a team event. Eventing Olympic medallist Shane Rose as well as Australian Showjumping champion Dave Cameron will be among the line-up.

“Naturally we will make the jockeys jump and the jumpers gallop,” explains event director Rose Read.

Any rails that fall during the Jockeys showjump round will result in a handicap for their teammate who must run in a footrace to a pony which they then gallop around the arena, ensuring plenty of laughs for the spectators.

Gerald Ryan and Dave Cameron are the defending champions from the inaugural event in 2014. Teamed up again this year they are determined to remain victors.

“We will be there to win, ”says Dave Cameron.

“I am really looking forward to it,” added his teammate Gerald Ryan, “it is a lot of fun”.

Whilst the competition is fierce the skills may be a little light on. “I have never showjumped a horse,” admitted Glyn Schofield, “so it will be a new experience.”

So be ready to cheer on the teams and have a good laugh as these competitive characters take on the challenge.

Sydney International Horse Trials will host elite level Eventing and Jumping competitions throughout the weekend including a CCI3* and a Jumping Word Cup Qualifier. Please see www.sydneyeventing.org for the full timetable of events.
