Trans Tasman Champion to Lead NSW in “State of Origin” Challenge

Published on Monday, March 11, 2013 in General

Natalie Blundell has been chosen to captain the NSW team in the State of Origin on horseback challenge at Morgan Park, Warwick (21-24 March).

Blundell is one of Australia’s top event riders. In 2012 she was part of the victorious Australian Trans Tasman team, claimed second place in in the Adelaide International 4* event, and was also long listed for the London Olympics.

Her NSW team will take on Queensland who will be captained by dual Olympian Stuart Tinney in the inaugural Over The Top State of Origin on horseback at the Davcar Horse Floats QLD International Three Day Event.

Event President Dr Cameron Osborne says attracting Natalie Blundell is a coup.

“Natalie is highly regarded in eventing circles for her elegant dressage and tenacious cross country style. She’s making her first visit to Queensland, in what we hope will become an annual event on her calendar,” he said.

Blundell warned Queensland riders not to be too confident of success.

“I’m really looking forward to the opportunity to test out the Morgan Park track at Warwick. I think NSW will mount a strong challenge and we’ll be seeking to win the inaugural competition,” she said.

Entries for the QI3DE have been extended with out late fee until 15 March 2013. In addition, expressions of interest are being sought from riders wishing to enter for a CIC1* or CIC2* event. Those interested should contact Tony Walls at tonywalls63@gmail.com

Prize money totals $21,000.
