Victorian Young Dressage Riders “Invade” New Zealand

Published on Wednesday, March 29, 2017 in General

At the invitation of Dressage New Zealand, three Victorian riders, Jamie Mita, Alicia Ryan and Fern Wright, will compete at the New Zealand Youth Dressage Championships at Taupo this weekend.

The invitation is as a result of a team of New Zealand Young Riders competing at the Ellanbrae Park Victorian Youth Championships at Boneo Park in January 2017.   The NZ riders had a great time and really enjoyed our hospitality and the efforts made in sourcing excellent loan horses.

Jamie, Alicia and Fern are all members of the Victorian Dressage Young Rider A Squad.  They left for New Zealand on Tuesday and are currently enjoying a day of tourist activities before settling into the grounds and trying out their loan horses.  Team Manager Julia Battams is enthusiastic about the opportunity for the riders. “Travelling overseas and representing their state and country is a wonderful experience for young riders.  They will be expected to ride loan horses at levels up to Medium and will be ambassadors for Australian Dressage.”

Follow the team’s progress on the Young Rider Dressage Squad Facebook page.  More information about the event can be found at http://www.nzequestrian.org.nz/dressage/news/2017/march/equestrian-entries-u25-dressage-championships-feature-team-challenges/
