What a weekend at Mount Crawford Dressage Club!

The 2016 MCDC Autumn Dressage Festival held on 21st and 22nd May produced an outstanding day of competition on Saturday to be followed by a shortened day of competition on the Sunday thanks to the massive storm which rolled in to call a halt to proceedings.

The weekend started with sand arenas groomed to perfection by groundsman Bill Henderson.  5 arenas hosted a full program from Preliminary to Grand Prix, with Pony and Junior riders adding to the mix.  Interstate judges , Kerry Swan-Bates, Felicity Yuncken and Luciano D’Elia  were impressed by both the facilities, standard of competition and smooth running of the event, and most certainly by the catering and hospitality!  The fantastic riding surfaces produced some very high scores from several of the State’s best riders,  and the exclusive trade fair presented some ideal shopping opportunities for competitors between classes.  Thanks to a very efficient scoring team, presentations were wrapped up smoothly allowing successful competitors (all very pleased with their spoils!) a head-start home to prepare for the second day.

Sunday’s proceedings started well with pleasant riding conditions for the first few hours.  As the forecast storm edged ominously closer and the sky progressively blackened, excessively high winds proved the forecasters correct and the MCDC committee made the decision to cancel the remainder of the competition amidst safety concerns.  A whirlwind presentation completed the day to ensure everyone made it safely home before the rain hit.  Our thanks to Sue, Lara, Dianne and Shaun from our trade fair for their good humour.
