What's Hot & What's Not! NZ Horse of the Year Show

Published on Friday, March 18, 2011 in Sponsored Shows

Horsezone's Haylie Martin is on the spot in New Zealand at the Horse of the Year Show and with just over three full on days of competition under its belt, this year's Show is shaping up to be another epic event!

One of the highlights so far was last year’s Pony of the Year winner, Showtym Viking, after being re-measured to reveal he’s more of a horse than pony, taking out the prestigious Seven Year Old Horse Title.

Meanwhile, popular 26-year-old Lucy Akers on her Thoroughbred gelding Tinapai, won the prestigious Lady Rider of the Year title in fine style and thundered around the arena in a stirring lap of honour. When asked about the win, one of the biggest thrills for Lucy was being referred to as a ‘lady’.

It's also been great to see the Aussies doing so well in the showjumping and we're looking forward to plenty more excitement in the showjumping arenas.

What’s Hot?

  • The Equimax Girls - they're ready to arrest any worms that dare come near your horse with Equimax worming paste (pictured above - complete with fluffly pink handcuffs)!
  • The Daily Horsezone Colouring Competitions.
  • Para Equestrian at Horse of the Year for the first time ever.
  • FREE crispy NZ Apples aaallll day! At treat for horses and people.
  • The Prydes team (pictured right) – best shirts on the grounds. New colours every day and today they’re all sporting pink versions
  • On the rider front, the trendiest guys and girls are all working the Animo Jackets available from stirrup.co.nz.
  • Horses of every imaginable breed, shape and size!

What’s Not?

  • The Nanny Nation that’s taken over Horse of the Year… no more watching the showjumping with a cold one these days.
  • The sunny Hawkes Bay weather’s been awesome but there are some dark clouds on the horizon…
  • Longish non-stretch riding jackets.
  • Children with no manners!

NEWS FLASH!!! Kiwi Katie McVean, riding Daffodil, won the Silver Fern Stakes and the Aussie team took out the Trans Tasman Stakes - stay tuned for more details!

There’s plenty more to come from the Show over the weekend, so stay tuned for further reports on the Horsezone website and Facebook page and look out for the full wrap up in next week’s newsletter!
