World Champion Boyd Exell to visit Australia in January

Netherlands-based Exell [originally from Bega, NSW] is the reigning World Champion and leads the International rankings in the fast action equestrian sport of Driving. 

Boyd is a real legend in the sport, acclaimed like a true champion when he enters the arena. At full speed, he majestically manages the power of 4 highly competitive and strong sport horses around a technical and complicated series of obstacles in a quite unbelievable manner.

Boyd Excell will be coming over to Melbourne from 16 to 18 January 2017 for a special clinic which is already sold out. His experience and knowledge will appeal to all sport fans and horse lovers. 

In 2016, Boyd was crowned individual World Champion four-in-hand driving for the fourth consecutive time. A record in the sport.

- Biography - 

Date of Birth: 29th July 1972

Born in Bega (NSW), Boyd has been involved in equestrian sport since he was 8 years old. The passion for driving started at the age of 16 when Boyd won the Australian pairs championship. Aged 21 he left Australia for Britain to improve his riding and especially his carriage driving talent.

Boyd, having been based in the UK for 20 years is now based in the Netherlands. When not competing he is training competitors at his superb new equestrian complex near Valkenswaard or training across Europe, Australia and USA.

Boyd Exell represented Australia on four occasions at the World Equestrian Games (Rome, Jerez, Kentucky and Normandy) and won the Gold Medal twice. He made history at the Kentucky World Equestrian Games when he won Australia’s first WEG gold medal since the event started in 1990.

He is four times World Champion and multi World Cup Indoor Driving Champion. He also won the prestigious Aachen CHIO on many occasions. He has been named Equestrian Australia’s international athlete of the year three times (2010, 2013, 2015) and his team of horses have also been honoured three times, receiving the international horse of the year award in 2012, 2013 and 2015. Boyd received the Federation Equestre International (FEI) Athlete of the Year Award in 2015. He also received the prestigious L’Annee Hippique Award in 2016.

Boyd is married to his wife Preetha, and has two children, a son James, and daughter Olivia.

His interests outside of carriage Driving are: motorbikes, watersports including sailing & water skiing, western movies & skiing.
