The NSW Committee of the Australian Warmblood Horse Association (AWHA) Ltd had to move fast to organise a change of venue for the Colt Selection held on 8 December 2015.  Luckily for them, Peter and Leone McDonald were able to make their wonderful facilities at Peppercorn Park, Picton, available at very short notice.

Four beautifully presented horses were assessed using the standard AWHA Ltd Colt Selection procedures, which include a walk and trot up on hard ground, evaluation of their conformation and movement, and free jumping.  Judges on the selection panel were Silvia Ahamer, NSW; Lesley Archer, NSW; Bev Edwards, QLD; Flora Robson, NSW; and Joanne Verikios, QLD.

“We were delighted to see three of the four horses that were presented go on to pass Colt Selection and we congratulate their connections,” said Head Classifier, Lesley Archer.  “Two are quite young and one is a more mature stallion who is already out competing.  Passing colt selection means that the youngsters have qualified for AWHA Ltd breeding permits.  If they pass their Performance Testing within the time allowed, they will then become fully licensed stallions.”

Ms Archer went on to explain that the older stallion, a World Cup showjumper, was eligible to participate on the day despite being over five years of age, following Federal Board approval to do so.  “We thought this might be a good thing to publicise, so that other people with older stallions know that they too may apply for consideration to present out-of-age,” Ms Archer said.

The successful horses are:

  • Charmore (IIU), brown, three-year old colt (Charmeur x Danny Wilde x Akzent II), bred by Kristy Beard Adams, owned by Christan Trainor and presented by Sean Cubbitt.  Overall percentage: 73.10% – Approved;
  • Kalimna Loxley’s Hit, chestnut colt rising three years old, (Legend of Loxley x Royal Hit x Oakdean Domaneur), bred by Heather Adcock, owned by Lachlan Kelso and presented by Jess Somerfield.  Overall percentage: 73.29% – Approved; and
  • Concorde Ego Z, grey eight-year old stallion (Calvaro Z x Carthago Z x Grannus II), bred by Linda Mayer, owned by Oaks Sport Horses and presented by Sean Cubbitt.  Overall percentage: 74.24% – Approved and Licensed, as he has already achieved the required performance level through sport.

The AWHA Ltd would like to thank Peter and Leone McDonald for their continued and generous support of the Association. Peppercorn Park is a wonderful indoor venue offering excellent facilities at very competitive prices. We highly recommend this location for your next clinic or event.

The AWHA Ltd would also like to thank the ground team and classifiers who donated their time and expertise to make the day possible.  Special thanks go to Silvia Ahamer and Julane Bowen for designing and erecting the jumping lane.

The AWHA Ltd National Assessment Tour is being held 15 January - 8 February. Follow links below for more information:
