Impeccably bred. At just over 17hh "Hugo" is often mistaken for a warmblood.  He is a calm, self contained fellow but can be feisty under certain circumstances so absolutely not for the inexperienced or a beginner.  As far as I can find he only had barrier trials and 1 race start. He has a soft mouth and needs a balanced rider with independent seat who won't hang off his mouth.  He has basic dressage training, with some lateral work and competed at Preliminary.  He has also done some clicker training to improve ground work. He had a lot of experience as a show jumper: competing up to 1m with previous owner, and at Interschools and up to 70cm with me.  He has also been trained at low level cross country: ditches, water, brush, banks are no problem.

Before you get excited: in the interests of full disclosure he has mild headshaking syndrome  ( evident only April to September) so is for sale as I cannot continue with his dressage training.   I have been trail riding him happily during the covid shut down and he is ideal for that.  He is used to kangaroos, deer, sheep, chickens, cars, machinery.  He doesn't shy but stops if something surprises him.  Given a few minutes, he accepts the new thing and moves on. Rhythmical , slow canter with no particular desire to gain speed.  A huge trot once he is warmed up and going but basically his default mode is to be laid back.  His previous owner rode him in Centennial Park, on Randwick roads and on the beach.  I have ridden him along semi rural roads and is pretty good unless something nasty comes up behind him.  I let him turn and look.  My ideal home wuld be a farm or rural situation with opportunities to ride out.  He spent 1 month on a thoroughbred breeding farm and was a very responsible "uncle" to yearlings and 2 year olds.  No separation anxiety: buddies can be taken away or he can be taken away with no issues.  He floats/trucks perfectly. Shod in front but not behind.  No veterinary issues.  When vetted for me he was declared one of the soundest horses they had seen.  He lives on  5 acres on his own but with horses on fence lines.  He is the easiest horse to have at home and is a good doer. Should the head shaking disappear you would have a competition horse for a fraction of his true worth. He is NOT for beginner or unskilled rider.  Ideally perhaps an experienced person wanting an uncomplicated pleasure ride/companion.
