Red aka “SWS Rejoicing” is a stunning, experienced show jumper. DOB 02/11/2006, 15.3 (160cm) approx warmblood mare by SWS Rabelais (Rotspon) out of Gilded Chalice (Northern Reward). Type Red is an adorable chunky little warmblood type with great conformation. She has a lovely arch to her neck which makes her look very fancy on the flat especially for a show jumper! Temperament We have found Red to be exceptionally easy to handle in every way with beautiful ground manners. She has been super quiet and patient under saddle and on the ground and really well behaved here with us and a delight to do everything with. Prior Experience Red has previously had huge amounts of show jumping experience up to 130cm and Young Riders championships with many excellent results with a junior rider. She has since been with another junior rider who has competed her lightly up to 110cm with placings out of limited outings due to Covid Restrictions. Paces Red has 3 smooth, balanced paces with a comfortable, relaxed canter and an active trot. She has a good over track in walk with clear 4 beat rhythm. Dressage Training Although Red has predominately done show jumping she has a solid basic education on the flat and could certainly try her hoof at dressage or eventing for a rider interested in dabbling in other disciplines. Rhythm - She is forward off the leg but not sensitive or hot and easily maintains her own rhythm. Very relaxed in her rhythm and will happily tick along at whatever pace you set with the occasional half-halt reminders. Suppleness - She tries her best to be supple and has improved since she has had more regular dressage schooling since being in work here but she does bend better to the left than the right at this stage. She will happily move off each leg but is still working on her right inside leg to outside rein connection although it is coming along nicely and improving every day. Contact - She sits in a beautiful natural outline with very little assistance from her rider. She just needs you to make sure you are forward first and then she will easily pop into a little frame and tick along nicely. She does require someone able to make clear half-halts on occasion to lift her shoulder into balance and remind her to be uphill. Back - Soft over the back, extremely easy and comfortable to sit on. Laterals - established shoulder-in, leg yield, walk canter, travers etc. Impulsion - She doesn’t work harder than she has to so does need some reminders to stay active behind and create more energy on the flat. When she’s jumping she is much more forward and it becomes easier to create impulsion. Level - Working at around novice dressage level. Jumping As a jumper, Red feels very experienced. She has been there, done that and would make the most fabulous partner for aspiring show jumper for juniors/young riders. She is bold and honest and extremely careful. She has great technique in front and back and uses her back but she doesn’t tend to over jump so would be good for a rider learning to develop their balance and position at bigger fences/over bigger tracks. We have jumped her 130cm+ since she’s been here and her experience/jumping ability is obvious. She can get a little strong at times so does need a good half-halt to rebalance her. We would like her to go to a home where she is schooled properly on the flat a couple of times a week in-between jumping rides. We feel she jumps so much better when she is tuned up on the flat regularly and she’s actually quite lovely to ride on the flat so not hard work! She is bold and generally forgiving if you make a mistake. She travels well to a fence and between fences and would be very quick against the clock. A great confidence booster for an ambitious junior looking to get experience and be competitive as they move up the height classes. Rider Suitability Although we have found to be an absolute delight to handle and ride, she is not suited to a beginner although she is quiet/genuine enough for a novice rider. The main thing she needs is a rider capable of making a half-halt otherwise she is a total pleasure to ride. We haven’t found her to be spooky at all and she hasn’t done a single naughty thing since she’s been here, not even a small shy so she would also suit someone who likes to do pleasure riding/hacking out on the side. She would suit a rider wanting to do pony club, ARC, inter schools, EA etc and shouldn’t be dismissed for other disciplines just because her main focus throughout her competition career has been show jumping as she is a genuine, versatile mount and would excel at her riders chosen discipline. Horses of this type, temperament, education and experience level do not come along often. She is the complete package and presents a rare opportunity for a young rider to secure a super competitive mount who will be reliable, fun and teach you lots and lots! Located Nyora, VIC.
