‘Red’

Big moving, forward and athletic is what this horse brings forward in abundance.

With a swinging walk and natural over track, spring and activity in his trot work and a super canter with huge ground cover, jump and power makes Red a very serious mount for someone wanting a quality horse to produce further.

Red is lightly exposed for an 9 year old, however has solid fundamentals developed in training. A large amount of time has been spent getting him to travel in a supple way and to move laterally well off the leg.

A very responsive horse in terms of body control as a large amount of work has been focused on this both in and out of the saddle.

One large aspect of his training however which needs attention and is yet to be well established is his adjustability. Red can be strong and a bit boisterous at times and being a big horse with a lot of power, this can at times be used against the rider, usually in the form of getting too on-ward bound and across the ground in his canter work.

Reds character is friendly and energetic. He is a sharp and clever horse, at times a little too clever where he can easily get bored or distracted. However it is smarts like these that making him more impressive than the average mount.

He can be a spooky horse, not tense or hot, just easily distracted which can turn to spooking if not kept on task.

I have owned this horse and developed him from a yearling with the aim to event him, however have decided, due to a few reasons, which I am happy to discuss, I don’t believe he is quite the right fit for me at this stage of my riding career.

Red is a big horse, with strength and power which has huge benefits but also does not make him a straight forward ride. He has an extensive amount of ability to offer the right person, but this needs to be the right rider with confidence, experience and enough knowledge to take him in the right direction.

I am selling this horse for far less than what his breeding, confirmation, movement, athleticism and soundness would make him worth purely due to him being an 9 year old with very minimal exposure and for the fact that he has recently lost an eye.

I have done a small amount of jump schooling with him (up to 70cm) where he has showed big scope and natural bascule. Even with now only having one eye, I have not found his judgment of fences to be any different. 

I do believe he would be best suited to a career in dressage however I also do not want to limit him from a future of jumping as honestly he hasn’t missed a beat since and has impressed me with his adaptability and willingness.

Currently in light work.

Never had an unsound day in his life.
