Watermark Rusty Boy, ‘Rusty’ is an 11 year old chunky 12.3 Welsh Brumby x who is the ultimate all-rounder. Rusty is an Eventing schoolmaster, teaching his previous rider the ropes of navigating her way steadily and safely around a Newcomers cross country course. In their final year they placed top 5 in every ODE entered and won the Newcomers class at the Sydney Eventing Spring Classic at SIEC in September 2016. We had been watching Rusty's progress, and after a 3-year partnership, his 11yo rider moved on to a larger eventing horse and Rusty joined our family as my 8yo son’s pony (we know his previous family and waited for him to become available). My son has taken Rusty to a few pony club days, a dressage comp, gymkhanas, weekly lessons, trail riding and done some stock work on our farm. Rusty is a D grade Pony Club show jumper, 60-75cm is his happy place and he rarely takes a rail. He also performs a great Prelim dressage test, is often top of the eventing leader-board after dressage, will work on the bit for a capable rider but is more than happy to cruise around on a long rein. He is ridden in a snaffle and in 2016 was part of his last rider’s Zone Team of 4 which placed at Sydney Royal. Rusty is completely unfazed by any new or scary environment, loves trail rides with big groups, beach and road rides, has attended ‘working cattle’ clinics and done some cattle work on our farm. He is perfectly happy being ridden bareback, will happily participate in all Pony Club activities including sporting (although isn’t very fast!) and his speciality is winning the ‘Pony Club Mount’ class. He is not for a beginner though and can be cheeky if his jockey goes into passenger mode. Rusty is best suited to a capable child looking for a second pony to start Eventing with, and he is happiest with a rider who wants to lots of cantering in big, open spaces. Rusty is easy to have around, he is great with other horses, will stand quietly (and go to sleep!) while being clipped, is great with the dentist and farrier and generally loves human company as much as we enjoy his. My 8yo son catches him and tacks him up. He self-loads on the float, will happily stand tied to the float all day, has been tucked away in the float at an outing when a massive rain and hail storm passed over and didn’t flinch. There really doesn’t seem too much that phases him. He is a very special pony that has a large fan following and brought all of his riders as much success as he did joy. As my son has lost interest in riding for the time being (as hard as that is for a mother to accept!), Rusty is sitting in the paddock way too much and would really love someone new to show the ropes and have some fun with. I am more than happy to answer any questions you may have, as is my coach who has taught my son, and also Rusty’s previous family. Rusty is currently boarding in Terrey Hills where he is available to meet and take a lesson with my coach if you wish. I am in no hurry to sell Rusty and as such he will only go to the very best of homes in which he will thrive. Price is negotiable to the right home, he is listed at the price we paid for him but he's way too good to be sitting in a paddock and I'd love to see him out and about competing with a confident rider like he loves to do. I've also purchased a brand new Thoroughgood all purpose saddle which was professionally fitted and can be included, along with his bridle, cotton, woollen, waterproof and doona and a few other personalised items like his show boots. Very happy to chat about any questions you may have - just give me a call on 0414 647 382.
