Seeking new home south of Port Macquarie / dry climate to prevent itch outbreaks in the warmer months.
Purchased in 2020 from Victoria, Winter is broken to saddle and harness (we have not driven her in harness).
Suits intermediate to experienced owner for trail/pleasure riding or possible carriage driving.
We use Winter very sporadically for trail rides, more during the holiday periods and less in the school term. We can spell her and bring her back in easily without requiring loads of work prior to use. She is well behaved in a group and will plod along at the back with riders of varying levels of ability on board. She is our go-to for tall riders and heavier riders. In saying this, our limit is 100kg. She is also safe and quiet with our little ones onboard!
Winter is also ridden in the arena, she is currently being schooled on the flat and is going around nicely in the basic foundations of dressage under an experienced rider.
She can be playful when being lunged and is a BIG horse, so she is not suited to inexperienced owner.
We have had her since July 2020 and think she is a special mare. The only complication is, since we have owned her, she is becoming increasingly itchy each summer and it is difficult to manage in our climate. She would LOVE a new home in a less humid area. We use cortisone monthly injections, oils, rugs, washes and sprays to keep her happy but this is not completely alleviating her itchiness. It is fair to say we need to sell her to a new home in a more appropriate climate.
Winter’s history as handed over from previous owner: She was purchased as a pleasure horse by a woman who lacked experience and felt that she was too big and too much horse for her to safely and confidently handle alone. Rather than selling her back to the previous owner, she was seeking a new home for her and we came through. Prior to that owner, she was owned by a carriage driving company in Victoria and has been broken to harness and saddle. She has also had a foal. When doing her health check with our vet, we discovered she was originally chipped at Coolmore stud and is aged at 12 years in our records.
