⭐️ HOBDEN PUZZLE - HSH ⭐️

15.1hh, 13yo (DOB: 14/11/2010), bay, registered HSH, gelding, ALL-ROUNDER

Located: Nowra, NSW

Puzzle is a well educated, well behaved, intelligent, and versatile horse who has done many different disciplines. I have owned him since Oct 2018.
Prior to me owning him, he did plenty of hacking/showing, Pony Club, ASH clinics, dressage clinics, low-level jumping, and trail riding.

Since I’ve owned him, we’ve mostly done dressage/flat work, trail riding, and lots of groundwork; as well as some low-level jumping, basic cattle work (he is ‘cowy’ and shows interest in working cattle), and attended some small, local shows.
I haven’t done much competing with him as I’m not interested in competing, however he did attend many competitions with his previous owners and always performed and placed well.

Puzzle is a forward moving, sensitive horse with a soft mouth and 3 well established paces. He has impeccable ground manners, an excellent temperament (with a bit of a cheeky personality 🤭), and is very easy to catch, shoe, float, rug, groom, tack-up, bath, body clip, worm, lunge, etc.
  • 🔸 Because he is forward moving, sensitive, and can get hot under saddle, he is NOT suitable for beginners, inexperienced, or nervous riders 🔸
  • Being an all-rounder, he is suitable for most disciplines
  • He looks to his rider for confidence and reassurance, so needs a confident, stable, and consistent rider with soft hands
  • He is a pleasure to handle and will patiently stand tied up for hours at a time
  • I have found that he responds very well to clear, concise and consistent training and learns new things very easily
  • When he’s in work and fit, he is the kind of horse who can go all day, he’s like a Duracell battery
  • He has a strong work ethic and is keen to please
  • He has no buck, bolt, or rear - he will occasionally chuck in a little pigroot under saddle when he’s being asked to do something difficult or something new that he is still in the process of learning, but it never escalates beyond that
  • He responds to voice commands when doing groundwork, lunging and when being ridden
  • He is a good doer
  • I keep him shod on his front feet
  • He is paddocked 24/7 in his own paddock at an agistment property with other horses in the adjacent paddocks
  • He can be paddocked with other horses as he gets along well with most other horses (especially other geldings), but he is very bossy at feed time and will push other horses off their feed (however, he is willing to share his hay with some horses 🤷‍♀️)
  • I keep him rugged appropriately for the weather
  • He will tolerate being stabled for short periods of time (always with another horse in the stable next to him, never by himself) but he isn’t overly fond of it
  • He can be ridden out on trails by himself (this got easier to do once him and I had developed a bond), but he does prefer to have another horse with him
  • He’s very used to dogs, cats and cows
  • He is sound with no history of injury or chronic health problems - PPE/vet check welcome at buyer’s expense
  • He is always kept up to date with teeth, feet and worming/FEC
It is very difficult and heartbreaking for me to offer Puzzle up for sale as I don’t want to part with him. I have a medical condition that is progressively worsening with time and has resulted in me no longer being able to ride. Over the last year, my health has continued to decline to the point where it’s becoming difficult for me to continue to keep up with the day to day work and chores involved in caring for a horse, so I feel it’s within Puzzle’s best interest for me to sell him, as my health is likely to continue to decline to the point where I am no longer able to care for him.

Puzzle has been out of work for many months now, but he is the kind of horse that can have months off work and then be brought in from the paddock, tacked up and ridden again as if he hasn’t had any time off at all. He is very easy to bring back into work and doesn’t forget any of his training.

Because of my health situation, there has been many times over the years where he’s had months off work and then I’ve brought him back into work without any problem; we just pick back up where we left off - no silliness, no freshness, no acting up. He obviously does lose his level of fitness after having months off work, but he builds his fitness level back up easily with regular work.
I have often just hopped on him bareback for a quick and easy ride in the arena or in the large, open cow paddocks around the property after not having ridden/worked him for months.

🔺Conditions of sale:
  • It is imperative to me that Puzzle goes to a 5 star, experienced home where he will always be properly cared for and loved
  • I will not sell him sight unseen 💢CHANGE OF CONDITION💢 - I am now willing to sell him sight unseen as my health is currently declining at a rapid pace
  • I will not sell him to a home where he will be stabled all the time or the majority of the time. I do not agree with horses living in stables or small yards and do not want Puzzle to live in a stable or small yard.
  • Buyer will need to provide references so that I can verify that he is going to an experienced, loving, and caring home where all his needs will be met
  • I would prefer that the home he goes to is his forever home where he will stay for the rest of his life and not be sold again
  • I would appreciate if the buyer provides me with periodic updates and photos on how Puzzle is going so I know he is ok and being looked after properly
To anyone who has a problem with these conditions, don’t contact me. I couldn’t live with myself if I didn’t do everything in my power to ensure Puzzle goes to the best possible home. This is incredibly painful for me to have to sell him, and I need to know he is going to a home where he will be loved, cared for and cherished as I have done.
