Kellar’s Chad is a beautifully bred gelding by the campdrafter Osland Pastures Cassanova out of Baymak Reed (HSH). Chad is true to type - alert and intelligent head, good length of rein, strong shoulder and nicely sloping powerful hind quarters.
Chad had an excellent foundation with his breeder before being sold through the Nutrien Classic Sale as a 2 year old. For the next three years, he was in consistent work with appropriate spelling periods, as his flatwork and campdraft education and competition experience was continued under the guidance of semi-professional riders. His current owner bought him, after ten years out of the saddle, to regain her confidence and get going again - he has more than fulfilled this role and she has enjoyed every minute of their time together.
Chad is now well educated for showing, campdraft and cow horse events. He has established flying changes, rollbacks and works a bag. He is ridden in a Bombers Loose Ring Happy Tongue and is willing and responsive, soft and 'light' in the bridhle and willingly 'collects' with a capable rider. Chad is the same after a spell, as he is when in work.
Chad has never pig rooted, bucked or reared. He is not bothered by machinery, dogs or vehicles. If a kangaroo bounces out at him, he may do a little ‘stationary’ spook. However, his rider had ten years off riding before buying him and he makes her feel safe and confident.
Chad is easy to catch, lead and handle - great for the farrier, grooming, hosing and washing. He ties up happily and calmly at float without fuss or pulling back but he may occasionally get bored and nibble the lead rope. Chad is happy alone or in company. He is led around and handled by a six year old under supervision. Chad loads, travels and unloads calmly. He is calm and easy to clip.
Chad is completely sound and injury free. He does have a splint which has been x rayed and never caused any issues. The owners welcome any vet check and are happy to share x rays.
Chad is sadly for sale due to the owners lack of time. We are looking for a capable new rider - only due to Chad’s size and age. He is a kind and willing horse who is ready to throw on the truck and compete tomorrow.
