Seamus

16.3hh 8yo Irish Sport Horse Gelding. By Braveheart RID (IFS), out of a 1/4 Irish mare who is the maternal sister to Klydoscope (3* eventer, 140 show jumper). Registered EA and IDSHS Aust.

Seamus has 3 quality paces, with a lovely uphill way of going, and is currently training most of the elementary work. He is quite an imposing presence, and the dressage judges always score him well.

He is currently competing confidently at 95 show jumping and has had a few eventing starts for a 1st and 2nd at 65, and has done one 80 where he was comfortably clear cross country. Time faults pushed him out of the platings as I just went slow around a twisty track. He absolutely loves cross country; is bold and brave and is definitely what he was bred to do.

Seamus had a slightly later start to life, only commencing his competition career in 2023. I have mainly show jumped with him (as that’s what I do) however he has also been to a couple of unofficial dressage days and some eventing starts when I have had the time. He is proving to be the ultimate eventer/allrounder. I can see him consistently winning his eventing starts for his next rider and I would love to see him with that person doing what he does best.

Whilst I find him reasonably straightforward, I have done everything with him (including breaking in). He does have quite a big, in your face personality and if you don’t enjoy that sort of horse then he is not the one for you. He appreciates a kind, patient and balanced ride. He can be slightly horse shy at events, so he does need someone who is happy to continue to give him confidence in these situations.

I don’t think he has ambitions of 3/4* eventing (though happy to be proven wrong in the future!), but I can see him being a very consistent horse that will continually win at all other levels. He loves variety in his work so I don’t want him to go to someone who doesn’t get out of the arena. Sentimentally he is quite a special horse for me, and it has taken quite some time to come to the decision to sell him, so it is most important that he goes to the right person in a long term home who doesn’t want to just rush quickly up the levels. I would love to see him thrive as someone’s special horse rather than just being part of a big team as he is here. He loves people, being ridden and food!

Horse welfare and their happiness is my absolute priority, so if you have a short fuse/don’t understand that a simple way to help prevent ulcers at shows is to provide constant hay/don’t genuinely love the horse and want the best for them, then please don’t contact me.

He is absolutely not for anyone nervous/beginner riders as he will quickly walk all over you if you don’t give him boundaries. But if you are confident and capable and kind then he is a really fun, quality horse.
