‘Miroku’
16.2hh, 8-year-old thoroughbred Gelding.
Max retired from racing in June 2023 before I began working with him in early 2024.
Max has a solid build with a big heart and sweet personality. He is very quiet to take out by himself and with friends being the same horse at home and at a new location, and is happy to chill out at the float all day. He is a big smooch in the paddock, nickering when he sees you coming. Max is perfect to float/catch/shoe, and is a good doer with maintaining weight (needing limited hard feed). He has a solid set of feet on him that can hold shoes for 8 weeks, and self-loads onto straight and angle load floats.
Max is a naturally forward moving and responsive horse that works lightly into the hand, with his trot being the current highlight. He is showing potential as a competition horse, but also thoroughly enjoys heading out on trails being ridden on the buckle or plodding around bareback. He was quick to establish the foundations of lateral work in the walk and trot.
Most of Max’s education has occurred in the dressage ring, however he has competed at 65cm SJ and trained 80-90cm over show jumps and cross country. He has attended arena hires and freshman days. Max’s quiet demeanour means he is not fazed by dazzle boards or arena decorations and he is confident over ditches and through water.
Max is very quiet, trained over tarps and proven with loose sheep in the competition warm up, bobcats and motor bikes. However, Max is still very green in his education and his responsive aids will require a patient and confident rider to get the most out of this talented horse whilst he is still developing confidence and strength himself.
It will be very sad to see this horse go, but I will not have the time for him going forward with Uni commitments.
