100 Retired Racehorses Have Done Their Time!

Published on Thursday, October 24, 2013 in General

Whether their careers on the track were long, short, or perhaps a fleeting visit, all NSW Racehorses are getting a second chance in life thanks to the Thoroughbred Rehabilitation Trust (TRT).

Prison is the first stop for all retired Thoroughbreds that are donated to the unique Rehabilitation Program run by Racing NSW and Corrective Services NSW, where inmates are used in the first stage of retraining in a two pronged process.

Since its inception, the TRT has now successfully re-homed over 100 Thoroughbreds via the Rehabilitation Program, with many horses heading to new occupations including mounted security, professional competition and pleasure horses.

“The long hours and amount of work that goes into rehoming these Thoroughbreds is amazing” said Ian Mackay, Chairman of the Trustees for Thoroughbred Rehabilitation Trust.

“These are people passionate about horses and they go to great lengths to train then find the perfect home for these retired gallopers.”

As each horse completes their training and become available for sale, being able to advertise them on Horsezone is a fantastic boost. The team at Horsezone have been avid supporters of the TRT from early on, and being able to list comprehensive details including pedigree and multiple pictures is an enormous help to find the right homes for these unique horses.

On Saturday 26 October, the TRT will host its second Open Day at Canterbury Racecourse, where they will highlight the techniques and showcase the hard work put into the Thoroughbred Retraining Program.
