The American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA) World Championship show is the pinnacle event for American Quarter Horse owners and exhibitors worldwide. This year’s competition began November 6th and wrapped up today in Oklahoma City.

More than 3,300 entries from the U.S. (44 states), Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Denmark, Germany, Italy, Mexico, UK and Venezuela competed for a $2.5 million purse. All competitors had to qualify for the event by earning a predetermined number of points to compete in halter, English and Western classes.

The top class purse of $98,411 was awarded in the discipline of ranch sorting. Grady Underwood of Jacksonville, Texas and Louis Saggione III of Manhattan, Illinois, bested the field of 170 entries and claimed the victory in this year’s competition. No strangers to the winner’s circle at the AQHA World Championships, the pair has won six world championships in ranch sorting and team penning. This year they’re taking home a custom gold-tone trophy, Montana Silversmiths buckle, Cripple Creek logoed jacket, Justin ostrich boots, Professional’s Choice products, Nutrena feed, a neck wreath and medallion.

This year’s show was estimated to have an economic impact of more than $28.4 million to the Oklahoma City area economy. Results and video from this year’s championship show can be viewed at aqha.com/worldshow.
