Show Horse Council of SA presented the 2011 HYGAIN FEEDS Hack of the Year Show on 22 - 23 October at Talunga Park, in picturesque Mt Pleasant, South Australia. This show has continued to grow and surpassed all expectations when numbers reached 170 individual horse and rider entries – this is a huge achievement in SA compared to many of the eastern states, as numbers are much smaller but what is lacked in quantity is made up in quality. This is a great feat to kick off the first Grand National Qualifier in the state for the 2011/12 season. Competitors travelled from across the state (Pt Lincoln, Pt Augusta, Mt Gambier) to compete at this show and from across small sections of the border in NSW (Broken Hill) and VIC (Mildura). Once again all horses and riders in attendance represented a quality field of show horses and show hunters.

Horsezone was happy to support this prestigious show by sponsoring Champion Hack Over 16hh.

The Committee have provided a comprehensive report on the event:

There were two jam packed days of competition over the weekend and we are very pleased with how our judges coped with the demanding program. We welcomed Sue East from NSW, Frank Thompson from QLD and Shelley Riley from WA to judge the 2011 HYGAIN FEEDS SHC-SA HOTY Show. They skilfully judged the program set before them and thoroughly enjoyed their time here in SA. I would also like to acknowledge our Announcer Steve Brewster and the fabulous job that he does for our show each year – a big thank you for keeping everyone on track in the ring.

A huge thank you to the SHC-SA committee and to all the volunteer helpers over the weekend – we can not run these shows without you – so thank you to all who helped from start to finish with the show – setting up arenas, prizes, competitor packs, marshalling or stewarding in a ring, picking up manure – whatever your job you did it and did it all with a smile. Our volunteers are vital to our success and we look forward to having your help again in the future. THANK YOU.

Many thanks also go to the two photographers in attendance – In Motion Photography and Kerri Afford Photography. They both put in long weekends to cover all of the classes at the show, please check out their websites and purchase a memory of the show.

We were pleased to have our new major sponsor “HYGAIN FEEDS” in attendance at the show. Martin Connell – Hygain Representative attended our show to provide competitors with nutritional information and advice, sell Hygain Merchandise (hats, saddle blankets, portable water buckets, clothing, feed bags, etc) and to present the sponsored prizes (HYGAIN Show torque, HYGAIN Senior, HYGAIN Honey Bee, HYGAIN Micrbeet & HYGAIN Gleam) for the weekend. We were very lucky to have Martin in attendance at the show and we look forward to continuing to grow our partnership with this fabulous feed company.

Other sponsors who held trade stalls over the weekend were: Rags for Nags, The Float Centre, Sanlirra Horse Accessories, and Bayer. All trade stands were well attended by competitors over the weekend and added another element to the show – “retail therapy” – so next year remember to pack money to spend at our sponsor’s trade stalls.
