The 2012 Snowy Mountains Showjumping Festival Has been run, said and done - and what a week it was!

Cooma Showground saw 460 horses, 1000 people 100km's of toilet paper and a massive amount of jumping take place. In fact over 3,750 rounds were jumped, about 3000km's travelled in competition and over 35,000 jumps jumped.

A huge effort was put in by all our workers. Special thanks to Sue Grant, Sue West, Sarah and Rhi in the office. To Michael, Bridget, and Greg our judges. Leeson, Tim and Greg our super course builders and all the other people that make the cogs of our event run so darn well.

Ring two needs special mention at this point in time, they averaged over 320 rounds a day and on Friday jumped a crazy 346 rounds, which has to be a record. 14 hours from start to finish - thanks to everyone who allowed this to happen.  Smiling was the only compulsory item required by all and there certainly wasn't any shortage of them. With no major accidents over five days of competition it was a credit to all involved.

Once again the 2012 event should have been called the Tom McDermott Show. He is an amazing person and on a horse almost unbeatable. He won most major classes at the event and really showed he is a world class rider. He is professional, always on time and a great person to have on the showground. Tom's presence certainly lifted the event.

Another highlight this year was the introduction of the Hawkesbury River Saddle Company Amateur series. Run over four classes, 77 horses started and created a great event. Well done to the proud owner of a new Hawkesbury River Saddle Company Jump saddle, Brett Clarke and GH Rambo. It was a super series and thanks to all the sponsors, competitors and everyone else who allowed this new event to hit the ground running in Cooma.

The Market day Saturday and Grand Prix day saw over 3000 people through the gate and a lovely spread of jams, plants and all things markets. The weather was amazing. Tom McDermott won both the Stars of the Future and the 2020 Finanicial Solutions Grand Prix.

Grant Hughes was the proud winner of the triple crown, on Blackall Park Atlantis, runner up on Yakity Yak and third to Jamie Grant on Cool K. A super series that we hope will grow in the future. Watch this space in coming months. Thanks to ACTSJC and Bega Jump Club for their generous contribution.

Saturday night at Cooma has changed forever - the Speed Derby, and Battle of the Sexes saw a crowd of over 1200 people pack the hill to be entertained. Sam Buchanan did it for the boys in winning the Battle of the Sexes. Go you Good thing! The boys can now brag about being the best showjumpers around, all thanks to Sam.

The arena then saw a major change with the ring crew snapping into action, cross country jumps and mud pit trees erected and we were set for the Cosmorex Coffee Speed Derby. Stephen Dingwall rode a text book round to take home the winner's purse, with second to Sam Buchanan and third to Jamie Smith.

Once again thank you to everyone who made it possible, we will be back again in 2013 to do it all again, but until then I'll see you somewhere out and about.
