Thankyou to all the competitors who came and competed at the Barwon Region Action Group (BRAG) annual event held on 28 April 2013. We hope you had a fun day out.
Special thanks to all the sponsors and a very hard working group of BRAG members and their families, neighbours and friends, as well as sponsors who came along and worked in the kitchen, the Secretary Jayne Ramaker and her wonderful support crew. The event couldn't happen without all of you!
Each year the BRAG Pony & Horse Sports Day continues to grow and this year there were six rings that were all full, all day with well over 150-200 ponies and horses in attendance.
2013 was special for all BRAG members, made up of a small group of Connemara Pony breeders and supporters, as eight purebred Connemaras came along and competed in our event. Two of those were stallions and both were very well behaved in a crowd - a testament to the breed.
Other Connemara ponies in attendance, who all performed well in many different events from Dressage, Handy Mount, Mountain & Moreland,Working Hunter and many more classes, are as follows:
- Our Youngest Rider, Sara Ramaker, on Gracefield Park Calmore Mist (had lots of fun in the Topsy Ring and was seen to have a neck full of ribbons at end of day)
- Diana Proctor riding Dun Manus Pooka
- Laila O'Donnell riding Blandings Foxtrot
- Eleanora Cahill riding Monahan Hullabaloo
- Eiden Sly riding Ballina Zeus
- Amber Smeek riding Boonahburra Stirling (who took out the Champion Overall Handy Mount)
- Sharyn Callender leading the young stallion Gracefield Park Mr Ed
The Ballantrae Cup for the Best Performed Purebred Connemara went to Celtic Basil the 7 year old stallion and his 13yo rider Kayla Lenehan for the second year in a row.
The Topsy Trooper Award went to a very happy and excited rider Georgia Reynolds-Oliver on her sweet and kind little chestnut pony.
The Ben Dhui Cup Performance Award for Best Performed Part-bred Connemara was not awarded as there were no part-breds on the day.
In addition to the Connemara competitors, riders of all ages on horses and ponies of all different sizes, shapes, colours and breeds came along. Some came in floats, some even rode their ponies in the gate from the local town to participate. There were lots of fancy dress entrants, who all did a wonderful job putting their colourful costumes together - you all looked fantastic and you made us smile.
